The MNC is a volunteer organization working closely with City of Oakland officials and departments on projects to make Montclair a safer and better place to live and work. Such projects include crime prevention, wildfire safety, emergency preparedness and response, beautification, and other projects that promote community betterment. As an all-volunteer organization, MNC relies on community participation to define and carry-out projects and priorities.
The MNC hosts Community Meetings quarterly with a program of presentations to the community on the first Thursday of the month. Other months, the Steering Committee meets to conduct Council business, accept reports from committees working on projects and develop plans for the quarterly meetings.
The MNC Steering Committee is composed of the Officers (Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Treasurer, and Secretary), Community Representatives (from the community at-large), and Community Organization Representatives (from civic, village, and neighborhood associations). The Chairperson sets meeting dates, agenda items, and presides over meetings. The Vice Chairperson assists the Chairperson and presides over meetings and activities in the Chairperson’s absence. The Treasurer manages the financial matters. The Secretary records meeting minutes. Community Representatives solicit participation from the community-at-large to support Council activities. Community Organization Representatives solicit participation from their respective organizations to support Council activities.
The MNC conducts elections of Officers and Steering Committee Members on an annual basis and can have up to 15 members on the Steering Committee.
