What is MACRO?
This is a new response model for calls for service involving mental health issues or other non-criminal incidents that are better handled by other than police officers. Mobile Assistance Community Response in Oakland (MACRO) is based on a model for non-police response in Eugene, OR. Our panel will describe the origins of the program in Oakland, possibly the process of how the Eugene model was adapted, and how the Department of Violence Prevention will implement this pilot program. The program has been funded by the latest City Council vote to be deployed in two neighborhoods in East and West Oakland.
Note: This is a conversation about the MACRO program, and any diversion into a defund the police discussion will not be allowed.
Announcing MNC officer elections and Community Representative ratification: Because the COVID restrictions have limited us to online meetings, it has been a challenge to find a new way to hold elections that normally are held at the May in-person community meeting. We have now worked out a way with our Neighborhood Service Coordinators to hold an online election. All residents of Montclair who live and/or work between Hwy 13, Thornhill Dr., the top of the ridge and Juaquin Miller Rd. are eligible to vote. If you subscribed in the past to the Yahoo group, you should have received a notification of a new group conversation space. If you are new to Montclair, you can request a ballot through our web site (https://www.montclairneighbors.org). You will be notified of the ballot on September 18 and have until September 28 to submit your vote. The results will be announced at our community meeting on October 1.
