Antioch Court Improvement Plan

The Montclair Neighborhood Council (formerly MSIC) and the Montclair Village Association (MVA) have been in collaboration on the Antioch Court Streetscape Project for many years.
The project is a Merchant and Community Initiative focusing on making Montclair Village a safer and more vibrant place to shop, eat, play and work by creating the following improvements along the Antioch Court corridor and adjacent intersections.
- Improving Pedestrian Safety by installing ADA Compliant Crosswalks, reducing the crosswalk length across Antioch Court & Mountain Blvd. and increasing visibility from concrete bulbouts
- Providing Traffic-calming by restricting traffic to one lane entering onto Mountain Blvd and establishing “No Left Turn” from Antioch Court onto Mountain Blvd.
- Establishing a Community Gathering Space by installing removable bollards to temporarily close street for events and leveling the street for safety
- Making Area Environmentally Sustainable and Less Costly to Maintain by repairing & replacing existing street & sidewalks/crosswalks and replacing streetlights for reduced cost and upkeep
- Improving Bike-friendly Access by integrating with Bike Route 8 and increasing utilization of existing bike racks

Mountain Blvd. Railroad Mural Project

The Railroad Mural Project will create a permanent living Work of Art for the public good based on the history of this busy location in the heart of the Montclair District, Oakland, California.
In 2014 the Montclair Neighborhood Council (formerly MSIC), together with the Oakland Public Art Advisory Committee (PAAC), approved a mural design and project plan for the Mountain Blvd “Railroad Trestle Mural Project.” The Railroad Mural will be painted on a trapezoidal concrete wall that is approximately 145’ long x 25’ high. The piece entitled, “Train of Thought” will be done in the “Trompe L’oeil” or “Fool the Eye” style by Oakland artist Andrew Johnstone. A work of anthropomorphism, the inanimate trains that give the work its historical context will come to life in the three-dimensional work.
MSIC has partnered with Oakland Parks and Recreation Foundation as our 501c3 fiscal sponsor. Make donation payments out to:
