The Montclair Neighborhood Council is committed to encouraging our residents to help us maintain our parks and support local art installation projects throughout our community.
Below are some of our ongoing projects. We welcome you to come help volunteer or donate to the cause.
Pocket Park
Montclair’s Short Line Pocket Park was built in 2006-07 by volunteers working for the Montclair Neighborhood Council (formerly the Montclair Safety and Improvement Council). The park is at the northern entrance to Montclair at the corner of Thornhill Drive and Moraga Avenue and was created to replace a fenced-in, ratty old corner that was previously owned by the Oakland school district. The school district got it from the old Sacramento Short Line railroad, which ran passenger trains into Montclair over this patch until 1941 and freight trains until 1957.
The park continues to be maintained by community volunteers, the Montclair Neighborhood Council and the Hillside Gardeners of Montclair.
